It was a very, very tough start to the season for Jaylen Harris and Cleveland Heights last Friday. They got absolutely destroyed by Buchtel by a score of 41-6. They'll get Harding at home tonight and hope to rebound from that, but it's not going to be easy. Heights is trying to encourage an up tempo, almost Air Raid, offense this fall which would theoretically be great for Jaylen if they could get him the football. Unfortunately, they're having some struggles with throwing it right now and that offensive line isn't giving as much time as you would like.
I continue to have full confidence in Jaylen's abilities and he thoroughly wowed me in the month of July. He wasn't as aggressive as you would hope before that, but he was still learning the game of football. Now that he's understanding the nuances of his position, he's just full go all the time. There is a reason this guy is so highly regarded by Ohio State and everyone else. Expect visits to Columbus this fall as well as East Lansing, Knoxville, and Tuscaloosa. Those are the big players in this recruitment.
Turning to Cleveland's other freaky good four star wide receiver in 2017, Javonte Richardson and Maple Heights got off to a hot start and took care of business on the road against John Adams. They were in a similar situation to Cleveland Heights last year, stuck with a QB who couldn't get the ball to his tremendously talented WRs, but they have a sophomore who's got a big enough arm to get the job done. He threw a pair of interceptions and is still working out some kinks, but he's a huuuuge upgrade and Richardson is excited to have him.
Richardson (whose nickname is Jigg for the uninitiated) is such an aggressive kid on the football field. He finishes his blocks every play, loves to come down the middle as a safety, and has looked pretty darn good as an OLB thus far as well. He also likes to back up his play with some hearty trash talk. He's a quiet kid off the field, but he really turns up the heat on it.
He'll be making visits to Ohio State, Michigan State, and Kentucky this fall (that's the plan at least) and I think when those first two teams see him on tape, interest will rocket up. Still think he finds a way into this Ohio State class one way or another and he would jump on that offer if extended
