After rewatching the 1st quarter the OSU offensive game plan seemed unprepared for the defense that Northern Illinois was running...
This affected not only the play calling, but also how they were blocking the NIU front on interior runs. It's the same basic front that Oregon runs that OSU torched in the Nat'l Champ game. But it seems that they were not prepared for it and/or did not adjust on the fly.
To be aggressive bringing edge blitzers, NIU was playing very soft corner coverage. Mike Thomas could have had a field day on comeback and slant routes. But again, the game plan just did not seem prepared for what NIU was going to do. The one problem with having your two main offensive coaches (Meyer and Warriner) on the field is that it is harder to see what the defense is doing.
Also other than the second INT (which was a horrible misread) Jones did not play all that bad.
