"Nothing new here. This weather pattern has existed for at least 55 million years, since the Eocene, and likely has existed since the Late Cretaceous, about 100 million years. Milankovitch Cycles are probably what makes it more or less extreme, and those function on cycles of 21,000, 44,000 and 96,000 years. Climate changes. It doesn't mean we have ever observed the full variation, since the variability occurs on cycles that are far larger than any models we have can predict." comment posted
