Went out with the father son team of OrSU fans I know and talked some football. The old man played up there in the 70’s and has been to a few practices and the scrimmage up in Bend. Great guys, pops is a classic “sometimes a great notion” kind of Oregonian.
“It’s gonna be a bloodbath, take OSU at whatever the spread is, hope OSU’s check doesn’t bounce we need the payday!”
Nothing is going right in camp. A lot of the old guys are checked out and the buy in is crap, the young guys shouldn’t be on the 2 deep right now and will struggle. Leadership is entirely lacking. Very clear this is a first year coach with scrap heap of a program. He calls it a 5 year turn around.
QB looks to be Luton who is a statue in the pocket behind an Veteran OL that was 120th last year in advanced stats. My friend said “Luton looks like a prototype until he takes the snap.”
The bright spot was their TE and he tore up his knee last week. They said he is NFL material.
Defense is really slow. One legit corner and they have two solid LBs. Gonna be a lot of FR-RSFR out there. Pops said they were struggling to pick up the system last week.
Pops said he’ll give them the benefit of the doubt because Bend is at elevation and it was 90 degrees and smoky, but the team was completely gassed by the midpoint of the scrimmage. Conditioning will be a problem and beyond the two-deep is an abyss.
Asked them for predictions, pops said OSU can name their score and predicted 59-0 “unless that cheating, lying bastard Chip Kelly really rubbed off on Day” Casey called it a little closer, 49-7.
I paid for the beers after I put them through the pain of sharing their team’s woes. They sunk deep in the booth when I said we had 3 RBs, 5-6 WRs and 2 QBs we were really high on. They knew about Bosa but sunk further when I told them about Chase Young and the depth.
They promised to heckle me via text if we’re not up 28-0 after our first 4 possessions.
