BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A California mother made it very clear her son would not be describing the Five Pillars of Islam or listening to an Islamic call to prayer.
Tara Cali posted a photo of a worksheet on Facebook she says was handed out in her son’s 7th grade history class.
Titled, “Islamic Beliefs and Practices,” students were to list the Five Pillars of Islam and scan a QR code with a mobile phone or tablet, which would take them to a YouTube video of “a call to prayer at the Blue Mosque in Istanbul.”
Cali was incensed by the lesson and made it clear her son would not be completing it.
“Seriously?” she wrote, drawing a line to the QR code.
“My son will not be a part of this in any sort of way. This is bad teaching material. He will NOT partake. If you have a problem with it, call our lawyer,” Cali wrote. She then listed several Bible verses.
“How about Christian practices?” Cali wrote on the assignment. “That sheet has never come home, this year or last!”
The mother posted the photo to the Facebook page of KGET – TV 17. It doesn’t appear as though the news station has yet done a story on the lesson.
