Constraining Maryland

Although the Ohio State defense was unprepared for a running quarterback, the Buckeyes' offense had its most consistent performance against the slanting, edge-focused, soft zone defenses they have faced this season. Ohio State did so by constraining the backside edge -- both with run/pass option plays for Cardale Jones and lead outside zone runs for J.T. Barrett. The Buckeyes will need that game-plan Saturday, as Penn State used a similar defensive formula to limit the Buckeyes' offense last season.
