COLUMBUS, Ohio–Eddie George, one of the all-time great players in Ohio State football history, will be on the sidelines this weekend as the honorary captain for the 2019 LifeSports Spring Game, presented by Nationwide. Start time is set for 12 noon in Ohio Stadium.

“The team is thrilled to have Eddie George back in Ohio Stadium with them,” Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said. “This coaching staff is thrilled, as well. He is a tremendous representative of this school and this program and we are certainly honored that he’ll be able to take part in this spring game weekend.”

George was the best player in college football in 1995. He was the recipient of the Heisman Memorial Trophy – Ohio State’s sixth recipient – and he also won the Doak Walker Award, Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Player of the Year honor and Big Ten MVP accolades.

George still holds school records for most rushing yards in a season (1,927 in 1995) and game (314 vs. Illinois in 1995) and his 3,768 career yards rank third all-time.

A first-round draft choice of the Houston Oilers in the 1996 NFL Draft, George was the 1996 NFL Rookie of the Year. He went on to have an outstanding, nine-year NFL career with Houston/Tennessee and Dallas. He rushed for 10,441 yards, caught 268 passes and scored 78 touchdowns. He ranks 28th in NFL history in rushing yards.

George was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2011. In addition to earning a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from Ohio State, George earned an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
