In yesterday's Skull Session, we went over official visit dates for over a dozen Ohio State commits and targets.
After reaching out to several recruits today, we can report that three more Buckeye targets have set up their officials to Columbus.
We'll start off with one of Ohio State's top cornerback targets: Toriano Pride. OSU is in hot pursuit of Pride and fellow Rivals250 DB Ryan Turner, who recently took a self-guided visit to Columbus this past weekend.
Pride texted me that today that his official to the school will be the first weekend of June. This will be from June 4-6, which is when most of Ohio State's 2022 commits, as well as Nick James, Omari Abor and Xavier Nwankpa, will take their visits to Columbus.
If you had to ask me today where I believe Pride is going, then I would say Clemson. I would put either Ohio State or the in-state Missouri Tigers behind them at this time.
It appears as if Ohio State is contempt with landing either Turner or Pride as their third cornerback in this cycle. I expect the program to sign five total DBs in the 2022 class when it’s all said and done: Three cornerbacks and two safeties.
I recently had a chance to catch up with Pride after he released his top seven, which featured Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Missouri, Ohio State and Oregon. This is what the top-20 CB on Rivals had to say when discussing his interest in the Buckeyes.
“I love Ohio State,” Pride said. “I love Coach Coombs and I like Coach Day. They’re one of the schools where I can tell they’re not trying to sell me a dream. I like how they develop DBs, player development… I just like them. I like how they run the defense and they compete for a national championship every single year. You can’t beat that.”
I'll also mention in this section that another defensive back target is eyeing the first weekend of June as a potential official visit date for him to go to Ohio State. That prospect is Kamari Ramsey, a Rivals100 safety target out of Chatsworth (California).
Ramsey says that him and his family sent that June 4-6 weekend date over to Ryan Day's staff to see if that would be a good time to visit, but they've yet to hear back on whether or not this will work for the program. I'll update this thread as soon as his trip is finalized.
Another member of the Rivals250 that has set up his OV to Ohio State is Jaylen Early. Early, who has the program in his top 10, is one of three 2022 targets (along with Omari Abor and Cameron Williams) from Duncanville High School for the Buckeyes.
Early tells me that his official visit to the school will be from June 10-12. This is pretty interesting as most visits of this kind usually begin on a Friday, but this one is supposed to start on Thursday.
I'm a lot higher on Ohio State's chances with Early now than I initially was, though I won't go as far as to submit a FutureCast in their favor. Some of the other schools catching his attention the most are Florida State, Oklahoma, Penn State and Texas A&M; in my opinion, however, the Aggies and Sooners join the Buckeyes as the likeliest ones to land him.
Early told me recently that he speaks with nearly a handful of OSU coaches, including Greg Studrawa and Ryan Day, on a regular basis. They've been showing him that he's a priority, and the staff has even carved out time to do two virtual visits with the No. 24 offensive tackle on Rivals.
He also says he is intrigued by the possibility of playing with Quinn Ewers and recent running back signees Evan Pryor andTreVeyon Henderson. Early won't get a chance to spend time with Ewers in Columbus as their OVs are on different weekends, but the five-star QB has been in his ear trying to recruit him to join the class.
The likeliest tackle to join Ohio State's 2022 class next is Aamil Wagner but Early, as well as Kiyaunta Goodwin, remain legitimate options for the program.
Jake Pope's plans are not as clear at this time as the other players mentioned above.
Pope did reply "Yes, I have," when I asked if he scheduled his official visit to Ohio State, but has yet to respond to my question about a specific date. I would have preferred to publish this with a set-in-stone date, but it has been a couple of hours and I didn't want to sit on this information any longer.
Although he is listed as an athlete on his profile, I have been told that the Buckeyes are recruiting the 6-foot-1, 180-pounder as a safety. He joins Ramsey, as well as Xavier Nwankpa and Zion Branch, as their top safety targets in this class.
Pope is one of those players who blew up in 2021 following a stellar season in the fall/winter. He's hauled in over a dozen offers this year alone, and put out a top 14 earlier this month.
He does not appear to be close to making a decision, but the Buckeyes are reportedly one of the programs sticking out to him, along with Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and Notre Dame.
Branch and Nwankpa are the primary targets at safety, yet Pope has been labeled as an important recruit by Kerry Coombs and Company. We'll update this post when he reveals his OV date, but the fact that they're going to receive one of his five available officials shows how much interest Pope has in the program.
