As the 2024 season began, many Buckeye Nation fans were worried that the OL would not be able to hold up its end of the bargain as this talented roster had a goal of Natty or Bust. Then Josh Simmons and Seth McLaughlin suffered season-ending injuries.
Many believed the OL room lacked seasoned depth. The Natty dream was made more difficult, but the OL surprised everyone. They performed great and powered the team to a remarkable playoff run.
Now the question. How will the main 8-9 offensive linemen be remembered. Where will these individuals be ranked in Buckeye history.
In the past 40-50 years: list the top 15 Buckeye players who played center. List the top 30 players who played guard. List the top 30 players who you consider the best tackles in the team's storied history. Next, who were the best 15 tight ends.
There were many All Americans. Many went on to play in the NFL and earn All-Pro recognition.
Have your lists? Now, where would you put this team's players on those lists? Say the tackles were Jackson, Simmons and Fryar. The guards were Montgomery, Tshabola and Siereveld. Centers were McLaughlin and Hinzman. It was tight end by committee: Kacmarek, Scott and Chrisiian.
Will any of them make it on the all-time great Buckeye program lists?
What they will be able to claim: "We're National Champions."
