Haskins has a golden arm. Can't wait to watch this develop in game action/experience with his WR's ..... wow, and TE's ... unless that is just for "show" ... don't want Haskins running more than necessary, taking hits, in piles with 250-300 pound criminals, etc ... use his legs opportunistically when it MATTERS, and to give WR's time to gain position for a downfield laser strike.
Day/Wilson ... Love it. Urban, get back soon, but let them work!
Deep threat? ... Loved the offense, still wondering who the candidates are for taking the top off? Dixon? Victor? Mack? McLaurin? ... any of them can take it to the house, or be a threat in the red zone ... just wondering if we have a reliable "fly/streak" guy that is gonna terrify Safety's like Devin Smith? Speed is great, but so are locating, adjusting, and battling for the ball ...
Speaking of Dixon? ... Looks good, hope the knees hold up! Thinking he MUST be doing fine to have him in KO Return!!! ... a great sign!
RB's ... 4 headed monster? Obviously Mike looked like a truck yesterday, totally being Little 'Los. Dobbins, Snead, Teague look like a corral of stallions. Nice to know there are several looking pretty capable if a "next man up" is needed at some point. Loved Snead's tough running, and impressed by Teague's broken tackle and bounce to the outside for his TD.
OL ... Weak area for me to "judge" especially against Oregon State. Looking forward to their grades and analysis, but looked good yesterday, to me. It will be good to see how this unit evolves, especially with LOTS of guys getting playing time for film study and grading.
LB's & S's ... Lumping them together, is probably unfair. Just seemed like the middle of the field was a wild west show, complete with gunfights and drunken Indians. Bad angles, speed, poor tackling. Just not even sure where to start and what to make of it, given the talent. Yeah Fuller and Tuf, get well soon, strength up the middle ... is that the answer?
CB ... Seem to be in position to make plays, but don't, ... ball skills? Yeah Ward, Lattimore, and others spoiled us. Not gonna worry yet.
KO Fair Catch?! ... New Rule? Fair catch at the 2 gets you the 25?! KO's were great, routinely at the goal line, from what I remember.
Game Experience ... Man, love being in the Horseshoe but all the "dead time" for sponsors is annoying, and can just murder a buzz.
Overall ... Great first game, especially with the distractions. Offense looks well crafted to personnel, EXPLOSIVE, and deep. Defense is loaded with capable athletes, needs some work. Offense is championship caliber, Defense needs to catch up ... not trying to be harsh, but we are always "evaluating" to the highest competitive levels, not just winning games. Hate to nit pick a 77-31 win ... but we are now ALWAYS in "how are we gonna beat Bama?" mode now, while taking care of business week to week of course. To be fair and clear, pretty pleased and "thankful" to not be battling to the end with Utah State and Appy State at home ... just striving to perfections, but enjoying the ride!
Outlook ... Playoff team, especially after witnessing MSU, PSU, ttun over the weekend. Not sure about Wisky just yet. Maybe go all the way, if we can clean up a few messes in Aisle 9, and tidy up a bit. TCU and PSU will be upcoming challenges on the road that will further define this team, but feeling confident about both, after yesterday ... even if it was Oregon State
Urban ... You've built something special, competitive annually with the very best, to very high standards. Good to get you back, as Supreme Commander and spiritual leader! You are an angry football coach, with an angry football team ... and you are a Buckeye.
