Hey guys, I'm trying to collect 1,000 signed letters requesting the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee to hold a hearing where veterans, like my son in law, can testify. One of the things Heath wants to do before he dies is to have his story heard before a congressional committee..any committee, and get some validation and maybe even an apology for what the government did to him and thousands of his fellow Iraq and Afghanistan War veterans.
I have about 300 so far. I'm thinking if I wander the tailgates tomorrow I should be able to put a big dent in the 700 more I need. I will park at St John Arena. If you have your pre game party in that area, post it here and I'll try to make it by. I will be wearing Heath's Army jacket bearing a sign on the back that says, "Ask me why the soldier who wore this uniform in Iraq is dying. Signees don't have to be registered voters, although I hope most of them are. Children can sign. Non Ohio residents can sign. This is for veterans.
These letters are directed to the entire Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee being delivered by committee member, Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown. Sen. Brown has assured me that he is going to nominate a burn pits hearing the next opportunity that they have to bring up new business. It's only twice a year. The committee would then vote. Don't think it's a given that every member of the committee will automatically vote in favor, though. After all, they are the Senate VETERANS' AFFAIRS Committee. Last November 30, the House Veterans Affairs Committee voted against holding a hearing for burn pits victims/veterans. It was my idea, and I asked Sen. Brown if I gathered up 1,000 request letters that he can take to the hearing when he makes his pitch if he thinks that would have an impact. A visual of a stack of 1,000.....or even more......with the top letter being signed by my 5 year old grand-daughter, will hopefully do the trick.
I am not attending the game. I will be watching with Dani and Heath at their house.
Thank you and Go Bucks!!!
