A recent (and unscheduled) bridge closure on I-65 near Lafayette has caused major traffic problems by way of a 60 mile detour, largely on a 2-lane highway. Lack of scheduled upkeep seems to be at the heart of the matter.

Why hasn't Indianer raised the necessary funds to care for our roads? Well, does this sound familiar?

  • While you may think "special interests" is just a political jab, the Republican supermajorities are proving they care more about "special interests" outside of Indiana than they do Hoosiers.
  • Last week, GOP Rep. Bob Cherry was lamenting to a reporter that he had signed Grover Norquist's "No Tax Pledge" - thus putting him and many other elected officials – including Gov. Pence – in a bind when it comes to fixing our state's infrastructure problems.
Cherry, a vice-chairman of the House’s Ways and Means Committee, said he fears the no-tax pledge will keep the General Assembly from acting on a long-delayed but needed solution. “We made this pledge to people who are from outside our state, who know nothing about us now,” he said. “They don’t understand. Things change.”

When will this madness end? Not for a while it would seem.
