Is it possible to have too many options on offense?

We had 5 different players run the ball today and 7 different players catch passes. It takes longer for playmakers to get into a rhythm that way. I'm wondering if the offense runs smoother when things are a bit more streamlined? In the V. Tech game, could the suspensions have been a blessing in disguise? The more reps a player gets, the better he seems to perform. Or am I over-thinking this?
