No conflict this week. I have no foggy idea what's going to happen and no question what I think should happen.
I am hopeful that this is the week that Urban comes in with a full game plan, but I really thought he would do that for NIU and Indiana. I was WRONG. Once fooled, twice shy. Twice fooled, pretty stupid.
Both those teams were/are pretty good and we needed to bring at least our B game on O to win comfortably. We didn’t and we didn’t.
Urban didn’t seem to care, and seems irritated that the fans are grumbling that a team with this much talent on offense is playing like it’s 2003 with QB consistency reminiscent of Steve Bellasari.
They should accept that he’s micromanaging things so he can win another NC. STFU and enjoy the tension. I mean who wants to watch blowout after blowout.
We could play Stephen Collier and beat Maryland… in fact that might force a full gamer.... I dunno
There are two reasons for HOPE.
One is that after this game we are at the top of the turn with a BIG night game next week. We play Sparty in 6 weeks for all the marbles. Urban knows that it won’t be easy to simply turn it on.
It’s becoming clear if it wasn’t already that Urban Francis Meyer is one stubborn SOB… for better or worse. So I don’t think he’s too worried about hitting the throttle just yet to make sure all systems are go when we get to go time.
He is however becoming concerned that things are so bad with the O that the D is taking WAY too many snaps.
Prediction: 42-14. He is sufficiently worried with the D fatigue that he puts the bit in the O’s mouth, but doesn’t apply the whip and spurs yet.
The O responds, but the errors will persist. This player group - particularly Braxton and Jalin turn the ball over. It’s what they do. The team just won’t be fired up for Maryland so there will be some penalties. The D will be ready.
FLOW: I can’t say. I assume the positive aspects of the game plan get the O moving early, then fade due to mistakes and we hit two late to make it seem better than it was.
When The Terps Have the Ball
I’m assuming that Ash comes out with the D’s hair on fire as TTUN shut these boys out on the road last week AND he and the O staff are agreed they want to get things comfy to play as much of the 2-3 deep as possible.
Kids who don’t see the field this week, likely don’t see anything but ST unless there is an injury. If Hilliard is gonna get snaps this is the game.
My only concern is that the Terps go full schoolyard, and this D struggles with that BS
When the Bucks Have the Ball
It's all been said before. Literally, in about a few dozen posts this week.... so I won’t rehash .. just light a candle and pray Urban does some of this stuff so I don’t have to suffer through another 60 minutes of 1999.
Start with early high % throws.Feature Thomas, and get the ball to Jalin and Braxton on bubbles and downfield easy completions.... slants, hitches.. it's all there
Huck some deep throws off of the short stuff to all of the above. Maryland DB's are good, so this will be more than a dummy scrimmage
Attack the A gaps using Samuel, Braxton and maybe Wilson on Counter Trey. Same as above for Maryland Dline
Try and win the damn game without resorting to running Zeke like a short track race horse.
