Last thought from Saturday, really a season-long thought (fairness)

The topic of fairness is probably the biggest issue this team, coaching staff, and even fan base is facing right now.

Basically everyone needs to get over it. Life isn't fair.

It's not fair that Braxton Miller hurt his shoulder twice and was robbed of a true senior season at the quarterback position but compounding that by going over the top to make sure he gets his touches this year isn't the answer. It's not fair what happened to Miller, but that's life.

The QB situation isn't going to be "fair". I keep seeing "fairness" come up in every argument and it's just a vicious never-ending cycle that will never be solved and shouldn't be debated really as it needs to be taken out of the decision entirely.

For Jones:

- It's not "fair" that the guy who led this team to the best three-game stretch in school history shouldn't be the starter.

- It's not "fair" that even once he started the Virginia Tech game (IE: won the job going by the criteria that his own coaching staff used), he doesn't get all of the reps each week and until this week wasn't even listed without an "or" next to him on the depth chart.

For Barrett:

- It's not "fair" that he performed as well as he did last year but then got injured and didn't lead the team to the national championship and then failed to regain his starting position in fall camp.

- It's not "fair" that he doesn't get the bulk of the first team reps in practice and then is thrown into a game where he basically has to come in cold and perform well to regain his job.

Life isn't fair, this won't be fair for Jones if Barrett is the QB and it won't be fair for Barrett if Jones is the QB. The pursuit of fairness right now on this team has caused more harm than good and will continue to do so if it is allowed.

I said this a few weeks ago, but the biggest thing the staff needs to do right now is unfortunately not worry about hurting feelings or being "fair" and just make the call they feel is best and go with it. Not only with the QB position, but how the touches are distributed as well.
