Some good stuff today, almost a hybrid Skull Session/Notebook......
- Even in his short time so far at Ohio State, soon-to-be sophomore linebacker Raekwon McMillan has done everything he can to give back to his community back home in Georgia. McMillan is back in Hinesville right now as his semester finals have been all wrapped up and today I am told he was at Libery County's (his former high school) spring practice to help out with the linebackers. The intensity of major college practices has already rubbed off on Coach Kwon who wasn't taking it easy on the youngsters.
"He demonstrated one of our drills today and put one of our guys on his ass," one of the Liberty County assistants told me.
Liberty County has been a regular stop for us on Southern Swing and we'll be out there once again at some point next week.
- Ohio State offered class of 2017 four-star OLB Robert Beal over the weekend. Beal, a 6-foot-3, 217-pound prospect out of Norcross (Ga.) was a guy who really impressed me at the Atlanta Rivals Camp with his athleticism and ability to cover in space. Beal spoke with Chris Ash on Saturday after Ash was at Norcross High School on Friday. He told me he hopes to visit Ohio State over the summer.
- A new offer went out today to class of 2017 four-star Grand Prairie (Texas) South Grand Prairie ATH Jeffrey Okudah. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound prospect can play wide receiver or defensive back but told me he believes Ohio State's interest is on the defensive side of the ball. He also told me that he is highly interested in the Buckeyes....
"I love the program," he said. "It's an offer I've been waiting on. I know I can develop into a great person at Ohio State."
It was new co-OC/QB's coach Tim Beck that stopped by the school today for the Buckeyes. Like Beal, Okudah hopes to visit Ohio State over the summer. I'll have full updates on both prospects tomorrow.
- Ohio State offensive line coach/co-OC Ed Warinner will be hitting the East Coast again this week. I'm told he's expected to be out and about Tuesday through Thursday so we'll be keeping a close eye on where he's popping up. One prospect that I'm told he'll definitely see is Brooklyn (NY) Poly Prep class of 2017 offensive lineman Isaiah Wilson. I recently featured Wilson on here after a really impressive performance at the New Jersey Rivals Camp.
- We talked last week about Ohio State stopping by Indian River High School in Virginia to check on a few prospects, most notably early 2017 five-star defensive back Devon Hunter. Hunter already holds 25 offers from some of the nation's top programs but does not yet hold one from Ohio State. He is hoping that will change soon, though he was not able to speak with OSU last week per NCAA rules.
"I really want an offer from Ohio State," he told me. "I've just been liking them since I was little. Just been a big fan of them."
- Finally, Ohio State cornerbacks coach Kerry Coombs was in Indianapolis today hitting high schools. Am told he'll hit some Indy area schools tomorrow as well. One stop of note is at powerhouse Cathedral High, Terry McLaurin's old stomping grounds, where class of 2018 offensive lineman Emil Ekiyor resides. Ekiyor is getting a lot of buzz right now on the recruiting trail and holds early offers from Michigan and South Florida.
