SUCCESS RATES FOR TODAY'S GAME
FIRST DOWN
Total = 33
Successful = 16 (48%)
Runs = 8/15 for 53% success rate
Passes = 8/18 for 44% success rate
SECOND DOWN
Total = 23
Successful = 9 (39%)
Runs = 3/9 for 33% success rate
Passes = 6/14 for 43% success rate
THIRD DOWN
Total = 14
Successful = 8 (57%)
Runs = 3/6 for 50%
Passes = 5/8 for 63%
3rd down success rate is very misleading as the offense continues to struggle to get meaningful yardage nearly 60% of the time.
1st & 2nd down success rate today was a combined 25/56 for 44.6% - - meaning the offense finds itself in 3rd and 4 or more about 60% of the time. Not good against a directional Michigan team.
OL continues to struggle to open running lanes inside forcing Elliott to take the outside route on nearly every play today. He had only two successful plays in his first 10 carries of the game.
Jones continues to throw jump balls deep. He missed FOUR easy TD passes today and got one picked off because of it. But nobody should be surprised as this is not a new trend. It was masked last season by Devin Smith's uncanny ability to hit the high point and beat the defender to the ball.
Defense played pretty stout in what equated to a glorified scrimmage on that side of the ball. WM got away with several "look away" uncalled holds on each of their big plays and the bullets still dominated. Indiana will be a tougher challenge for sure.
