1. I thought that the flow of the offense was much improved. That is a credit to the offensive staff working together to get the logistics of scripting the plays and calling the plays from the box ironed out. You could tell there was a dose of cohesion.
2. I thought our offensive line played better than it did the previous two weeks, but they are still working towards where they were at the end of last season. I thought Billy Price played his best game of the season, and that was verified by him grading out a champion. I have very high hopes for the kid. I think that Ed getting more help from the box helped him get the offensive line going again. It is hard to juggle both, which is why few programs do it the way it is set up.
3. I believe our defense wasn't as suffocating as it had been the week prior. Western had some good schematics in the running game, and we lost our gap control at times. Teams know in the throwing game that they had better get rid of it in a hurry, as few OLs should be able to hold up when Joey Bosa, Dede Washington, and Sam Hubbard are rushing the passer. Throw in Darron Lee as a blitzer, and you basically have a sack soufflé.
4. Feeding Mike Thomas early and often was a nice change of pace for our offense, as I think he is a volume receiver who needs to be fed. He has very high end ability. I thought we were a few Cardale deep balls away from feeling great about this win. The turnovers are still a killer.
5. I think we have another test for our defense this week as we go to Indiana. Their sleepy stadium was a house of horrors for us in 2012, as they shredded our defense for 49(!) points. Thankfully, we dropped 52. Coach was not happy after that one. I have a lot of respect for Kevin Wilson, as he has had some success there in a state that produces next to zero in-state talent. His offenses are usually pretty strong, and his defenses are usually equally as bad.
Fire away with questions, and I will get to them in a little bit.
