NFL Draft success (2011-18)

For fun, had started this project back in July but for reasons you can all figure out, it sort of got sidetracked.

I kind of wanted to measure programs based on NFL draft success. I decided to use the Pro Football Reference "career approximate value" number as a guide. It's sort of a WAR-like metric applied to football. Obviously it's not going to be as precise a number given football players are more difficult to measure, but it's kind of like a win share type thing.

So I went back from 1994 to 2003 and used the 10 year sample of every draft position, averaging the players' career 'win shares' based on PFR. Then distributed the average CAV based on draft position (generally just over 250 spots in a 7-round draft).

More or less, the No. 1 pick averages just under 80 CAV or 'win shares.' So I applied a point system to project CAV based on the 10-year sample and totaled each pick up for programs from 2011-2018.
