COLUMBUS, Ohio – Nick Vannett, expected to be one of the top tight ends in college football in 2015, graduated from The Ohio State University Sunday with a degree in sport industry. He, along with former Buckeye Jake Russell (marketing), were among 21 Ohio State student-athletes to receive a degree in summer commencement ceremonies held at the Jerome Schottenstein Center.
Vannett, who is from Westerville, Ohio and attended Westerville Central High School, is the seventh current member of the football team to earn his degree. The football program’s graduation success rate of 78 percent is its highest rate ever.

Vannett has played in 40 games during his career, including all 15 last season for the College Football Playoff national champions. He was one of 10 Buckeyes with at least 10 receptions last year, finishing with 19 catches for 220 yards and five touchdowns. He scored a touchdown against Michigan and his touchdown against Oregon in the national championship gave the Buckeyes a lead they would not relinquish.
Vannett has 36 career catches for 423 yards and six scores and is in reach to join Ohio State’s tight end Top 10 in catches and yards. He is already ninth in career touchdowns by a tight end with six and is in reach of Jake Stoneburner’s school record of 13.
After celebrating his graduation with his parents, Carol and Jim, Vannett joined up with his teammates in time for the first team meal of the 2015 fall camp season at the Fawcett Center.
