Everyone seems to want to place blame at the feet of Day for NIL shortcomings Yesterday. IMHO that is the wrong place. Doug Archie and Gene Smith to be more exact ARE THE PROBLEM. The NCAA might as well not exist when it comes to NIL and they are looking to congress to solve the problem. This is unlikely to happen.
The CENTRAL problem from what I can see having heard others far closer to the situation is painting a dark picture. Guys like Austin, Birm and Bill are a little handcuffed in just how direct, and how hard they can push for answers. There is a significant division between what the coaching staff is telling the AD and fans what they NEED to compete and a complete unwillingness/disconnect from Archie and Smith to seem to want to address the REALITY.
If Archie and Smith think they will be proven right, they need to provide SPECIFICS as to how, when, and why they are correct. They have not even begun to address this reality in even a mild form. There is seemingly no plan, no outline of when they will be proven right. This is particularly alarming given the clear and obvious inaction by the NCAA.
Of the guys (from my recollection about 7-8) very high 4* and SEVERAL 5* recruits that OSU was poised to land pretty much ALL of them NIL either played a SIGNIFICANT role or THE OVERALL driving role in their decisions. To be clear I am not advocating going after every top kid with 5-8 million NIL offers. But the fact that OSU simply is NOT competitive is totally and completely UNACCEPTABLE.
When Lincoln Kizholt indicated he turned down more money to come to OSU there IS a problem and it needs to be addressed and fixed. If there are people at the Woody that oppose that THEY SHOULD BE FIRED and done so IMMEDIATELY.
Id love to see the OSU Alumni Club and its president create a monthly subscription system put in place for NIL even just 20-25 dollars a month becomes big $$$. There needs to be a MUCH better working relationship between the NIL systems in place and OSU... There needs to be some changes in who handles trademarking and advertising for OSU as LEER is a problem
