Ryan Day was on 97.1 The Fan this morning. Here are the important things he said:
On contract extension: "There's just so many people to thank when something like this happens, but, you know, this is obviously a wonderful place. And like I've said before, I want to be here as long as I possibly can. Our family loves Columbus, so we are just very blessed and thankful for making something like this possible."
On summer: "We had the spring cut ups to look at and to go back on now, which is great because the NCAA's allowed us, in the eight-hour week of the summer, to spend some time int he film room and actually on the field a little bit with a football. That's a new rule change, which I think is great.
"I've been pleased so far. I mean, it's a good start, but we'll find out more in that first game."
Called all of the new assistant coaches "very intelligent, very bright," but that Ohio State is different than any other place they have been. "I think we have a very, very good staff, and.i think this is a chance to play our best football as we get to September."
C.J. Stroud: "It goes back to how well he plays because at this time last year, he hadn't thrown a college pass and then went on to play some really, really good football as the season went on and got better as the season went on.But just becausehe did it last year doesn't mean it's just going to happen this year. If anything else, he's got a bullseye on his chest, so you know he's going to have to bring it right from the jump, and there's a lot that comes with that. A lot of it has to do with leadership and the guys that are around him. It's going to take everyone on that offense. We've got to be able to establish the run and run the football, find that balance, especially in big games. I think for him, there's so much nowadays on social media and the media and just all the things that come at these guys. He's doing a great job of just keeping the main things the main thing: focusing on the little things and staying disciplined and knowing, again, that he's going to prove himself every week."
Conference realignment: "I think our conference is strong. I think with the right mindsets and heading into the future here of our brand of The Ohio State University and what that brings to the table means a lot and I think it will be very interesting to see how some of these conversations shake out over the next few months, hopefully over the next few months. I think we do need to take a hard look at everything that's going on right now and make sure we're doing what's best for our players and for the schools and for the Big Ten conference."
On Notre Dame: "At Ohio State, we have to win every game. You all of a sudden put so much into one and then play again the next week. But that being said, we're talking about a top-10 matchup, a night game at home. It's going to be an unbelievable atmosphere, a lot of emotion. So yeah, we're going to be all over this. We typically do that for our first few opponents anyways, get a head start on that. But with a new defensive coordinator in Al Golden, someone that I worked for, someone I have a lot of respect for in that area, kind of a new staff, some guys have been there before. It's a very good team, great program, very good coaching staff. Big challenge, so we're going to work all summer to make sure we're prepared to play our best football in that game."
