Ohio State assistant coach Ryan Pedon is off to his first head coaching job.

First reported by CBS Sports, Pedon will be named the next head coach at Illinois State. The Ohio State assistant coach has been with Chris Holtmann for the past five seasons at Ohio State and for two seasons on his staff at Butler.

Pedon was a big part of coaching up Ohio State's bigs, especially junior forward E.J. Liddell, who was an All-Big Ten player for the Buckeyes last season.

“Ryan’s fantastic,” head coach Chris Holtmann said of Pedon earlier this season. “He’s one of the terrific, young, up-and-coming assistant coaches who is going to be a head coach really soon. He has turned down a couple of head coaching jobs that were really pretty good jobs and I’m forever grateful to Ryan for what he’s done.

“But unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be able to hang on to him too much longer. He’s that good, and I can’t wait for him to be a head coach.”
