Ohio State v. Wisconsin
125 – Heinselman v. Barnett – Another toss up for Malik. I cannot feel confident picking him to win at this point. Barnett by decision.
3-0 Wisconsin
133 – Decatur/Koontz v. Gross – I agree with the sentiment that I would throw Koontz out there. Tech either way.
8-0 Wisconsin
141 – Pletcher v. Moran – While I think this may be a good match, I think it’ll be closer to a major than a decision for Moran.
8-3 Wisconsin
149 – Sasso v. Martin – I think Sammy grinds out a victory here. I would like to call for bonus, but I don’t see it.
8-6 Wisconsin
157 – Cleary v. Scharenbrook – Well, looking him up, Scharenbrook has a win over Brolsma from Minnesota, but got teched by Robb from Nebraska. Total toss up. Need Cleary to step up here and get on his offense going early. I’m calling for Cleary to get the win, because if not, the Bucks are sunk.
9-8 Ohio State
165 – Smith v. Wick – Wick just knocked off White and seems to be wrestling very well. I think Smith can keep this close, but what worries me is the Stanford match and watching Griffith cradle Smith. If Wick gets that cradle on he could bust this match open.
11-9 Wisconsin
174 – Romero v. Krattiger – Skatzka majored Krattinger, but Labriola only wins by decision. Romero is wrestling really, really well right now. I hope Romero pushes for the major because every point is going to matter.
12-11 Ohio State
184 – Hoffman/Jordan v. Sebastian – I assume we’ll see Hoffman, as he seems to get all of the ranked opponents. Sebastian has never been an offensive juggernaut, so I expect him to pull out a decision here.
14-12 Wisconsin
197 – Moore v. Watkins – Watkins has been teched in 2 of his last 3 matches, and Moore absolutely needs one here. A pin would be better.
17-14 Ohio State
285 – Traub v. Hilliger – Gas Tank Gary has his work cut out for him. I think he holds it to a decision, which means we have a tie…
17-17 Tie
Overall – Ohio State is favored in 4 matches, Wisconsin is favored in 4 matches and then there are 2 toss ups. Ohio State needs one of the toss ups, and both would be great. On the road, with 125 and 157 struggling so bad, I don’t see them pulling this off.
Ohio State v. Illinois
125 – Heinselman v. Cardani – Cardani’s results are all over the place, so this is a toss up. This one being at home, I’m hoping that Malik can pull it off. But I’m not calling for it until it happens.
3-0 Wisconsin
133 – Decatur v. Piotrowski – This is a key match, and one that I think Decatur can win. Piotrowski can ride, so Decatur will need to get out, but I think he has the advantage on his feet.
3-3 Tie
141 – Pletcher v. Duncan – Lee majored Duncan, and I think Pletcher does the same.
7-3 Ohio State
149 – Sasso v. Jodeh – This NEEDS to be a major (or more) from Sammy. Would really be a good time for a pin, but I’ll stick with 4 for now.
11-3 Ohio State
157 – Cleary v. Barone – Cleary has solid enough defense that he should be able to hold this to a decision.
11-6 Ohio State
165 – Smith v. Braunagel – Pure toss up. I think Smith is the slight favorite, and being at home, I think he grinds out a decision.
14-6 Ohio State
174 – Romero v. Gunther – Another pure toss up. Gunther has no offense, and I think that Romero hits 1 take down and gets the decision.
17-6 Ohio State
184 – Hoffman/Jordan v. Braunagel – Braunagel has some offense and could rack up some points here. I think he gets the major.
17-10 Ohio State
197 – Moore v. Wroblewski – Moore again should be looking for a tech here, and I think he gets it.
22-10 Ohio State
285 – Traub v. Luffman – A toss up. This will be a 1 or 2 point match. I’m calling it for Luffman now, but hopefully I’m eating crow for doubting Gas Tank Gary!
22-13 Ohio State
Overall – In this match, Ohio State is favored in 3 matches (141, 149 and 197), Illinois in 2 (157 and 184) and the other 5 are toss ups. This match could be close, or if either side gets on a roll, it could be a blowout for either team.
