Luka Doncic is the leading candidate to be NBA Rookie of the Year. He just got his second triple double of the season and is averaging more than 20ppg. We had the opportunity to trade for the right to draft for him with Dallas and our GM previewed the deal with LBJ...who said he would not stay, even if the deal was done. Even with Love injured for half the season, this team would have finished very strong heading into the playoffs with Doncic and Love returned to health...and the other pieces...and new waiver acquisitions..... fitting in better than last year.
In the long run it might be better to simply bottom out and rebuild. Janes will not play forever and is showing his age...certainly on defense. But for one year we would have had a legitimate Eastern Conference contender and a future All Star.
