For all of those pining for OSU football I thought I’d share a little story to take you back to your glory days and try to hold you off until August/September.
Meant to get this posted a few weeks ago but have been busy with life. Three weeks ago on Father’s Day my son’s 10u flag football team from Chandler, AZ won the Hard Count San Diego regional tournament qualifying them for an automatic bid to the 10u National Championship in Frisco, TX July 13th and 14th. I help coach the team and my son is the QB (#11). I’ve never been around a group of young men this age willing to listen, work, and prepare as much as them. It’s been a blessing just to be part of it. I’m my son’s toughest critic but watching the excitement and celebration with his team after winning the tournament is something I’ll never forget. They all put in a ton of work and to see it payoff for them is what makes it special.
The 10u division in San Diego included 25 teams from AZ, CA, HI, NM, and NV. Back in April of this year we played the Las Vegas qualifier (26 teams – same States) and lost in the finals so San Diego was our last attempt for an automatic bid to TX. I know how we all like to discuss rankings but the flag circuit has come a long way since my days of playing and they actually put out rankings coast-to-coast based on tournament wins and head-to-head victories. Currently they have the Chandler Raiders as the 5th best 10u team in the country. I know it’s all in fun but great for bragging rights.

They’ll be playing their games at the Star (Ford Center) which is the Dallas Cowboys main training facility so should be a great experience for the boys. I encourage anyone in the area to come out and support all of the teams as this is a fun and competitive brand of football. Ages at the tournament will be 6u, 8u, 10u, 12u, and 14u.
In order to give back to the boys for achieving one of their goals we have coordinated a team onlytour of the Cowboys facilities at the Star on Friday. The boys don’t know about it yet so we are going to surprise them. We’re also trying to organize a few current/former Cowboys to speak to them as well (fingers crossed). Since my son and family are huge Ohio State fans we were hoping to see if anyone on the board knows if any of the former Buckeyes (Zeke, Brown, Smith) will be in town prior to heading out West to Oxnard for training camp. I would love to have one or more of them meet the team and take a few pictures. I’ve seen the awesomeness of the board so if anyone has the chops to help facilitate something like this it would be greatly appreciated. Please reach out to me as I’d love to help coordinate this.
Lastly, one of the coaches put together a short highlight film of the San Diego tournament that consisted of three pool play games on Saturday and four games on Sunday after the 25 teams were re-seeded. The rules are pretty simple (5 on 5) three downs to get to midfield and then three to score. The rules focus on creating a passing offense because the QB can’t run on direct snaps. It is essential to get passes off quickly, because like us, most teams blitz on every down forcing the QB’s to make quick decision or get sacked.
Anyway, just wanted to share this accomplishment with a great group of Buckeyes and true football fans. Enjoy the video and wish us luck this weekend. Go Raiders!
