I remember Nevada mentioning this last week as a reason the defense was a bit slow in getting lined up against the Hoosiers last week. Slow getting signals in due to having to change them all up before the game.
Saw this from James Franklin today:
Worth a shot
A new sight on Penn State’s sideline this week was a large play card used to signal in calls from the sideline.
Franklin said after the game that the Lions were worried about Indiana deciphering their usual signals, so they elected to use multiple forms of communication to try and throw off the Hoosiers.
“We found out that they spend a lot of time trying to figure out your calls on the sideline,” Franklin said. “That’s kind of the word on the street. And those signs allow us to get our plays in, along with signals to get our plays and numbers with wristbands to get our plays in.
“So we just wanted to make sure. … That’s probably coaches being paranoid, but we love to have three different ways to get our calls in to our defense.”
