I know this will never happen, but I think a school could really prosper if they tried it and lower their risk of being totally hijacked by their collectives. Just a hypothetical:
the easiest way to solve the NIL problem is to funnel money through the AD and coaches to the collectives instead of asking people to donate to various collectives and the AD. Keep all money going to the AD. Gene says to Ryan class of 2024 gets $20M, how do you want it broken down by position group? Tony Alford needs 2M for 2 backs. So he gets a 2M bonus that he then donated (tax deductible of course) to the collective and says it’s going to jimmy and joe. If Tony can get his guys for less, he gets a nice Christmas bonus, but it’s on him to get his guys.
You might be worried TA takes the money and takes a MAC job. That’s certainly a risk, but I’m guessing a smart lawyer can make it work in the contract and that Gene could blackball guys who take the money and run.
Not like the NCAA is gonna do anything about right?
