Defensively:
1) I thought our run defense was really bad considering that WMU ONLY ran up the middle.
2) McMillan I guess had 16 tackles...but he was seemingly out of position on many of their longer runs. And a lot of tackles is great but he got pushed back a few yards on almost every stop. He needs to play more violently. And he needs to anticipate much better. Powell makes a lot tackles too but we need Kwons tackles to be made more upfield (and opposing RB's can't be getting half of their yardage after the initial point of contact). I have faith he will improve. He did have a great sack.
3) I know Lee was hurt so that explains why he was off - we missed his big play ability.
4) Considering our front seven, we should be stuffing the run / filling gaps much better. We need more TFLs, sacks and need to be holding the opposition to a lot more no gain or 1 or 2 yard plays.
5) Even on obvious run downs (their 4th and 1 in particular) we looked as if we never loaded the box. (I thought that's what we are supposed to do with 2 lockdown corners, Bell Powell (and Lee)).
6) I thought our pass defense was pretty poor too since they basically only threw sideline routes.
7) Our Dbs were off too. Apple and Conley made very few plays. Bell was below par.
8) Powell did nothing - except I guess he stopped the running back when they broke through our front 7.
(8b) By the way Jeremy Cash will be a 1st or 2nd team All American. And he is a 1st / 2nd round draft pick. Yes it's fantasy. But could you imagine him with this team back there with Bell? Geez...
9) Perry played ok. I don't go nuts when our guys (like Kwon) make a lot of tackles. I want to see more sacks, TFL's and violent sticks coupled with textbook tackling.
10) Lattimore got smoked on their TD pass.
11) I would like to see us start bringing more blitzes and playing much more aggressively.
12) I would like to see more Burrows and Smith.
12) WMU could have easily scored 24-31 points if they didn't kill themselves with penalties and if they had a kicker.

Offensively:

1) Jones - as we all know - missed 3-5 TDs. I think 4 underthrows and the one grossly overthrown ball to Thomas.
2) The receivers didn't help him at all by going 0 for 5 or 6 on jump balls...
3) We are all frustrated because we all know if most of our offensive players play pretty well...then we can easily run up 550 -700 yards of offense and 49-70 points every single week. If Jones hits 3-5 or even 2-5 of those long passes and we don't blow the td at the end of the half, then we are all happy because we are much closer to our reaching our potential than not.
4) I loved the roll out play where Cardale could have run, but when he got close to the line, he threw the short pass to Vannett - let's see more of that! Almost impossible to defend.
5) The interior guys played better. Snaps improved.
6) Decker is at least on shut down mode with regard to pass protection. Farris was off.
7) Our Braxton wildcat needs a lot of work. I can't remember a version that didn't involve him dancing around a bit and hoping for a crease. Lets have him run the option and keep it or pitch it to Zeke (or Samuel). Get him to roll out and throw a short pass or keep it. We have eliminated the unknown component of the wildcat. We need to mix that play up a bit.
8) Thomas, Vannett, Samuel and Marshall all need more touches.
9) Vannett needs to cut out the false starts, improve his blocking and get open..
10) EZE is so steady. I think the the optimal ball distribution for runs is Zeke gets 20 carries, Cardale 5-6, Braxton 5, Samuel 5 Wilson and Marshall 1-2 each and Brionte 5-6 in clean up.

Special Teams:

1) Johnston is a beast! Number 1 punter in the country in my opinion (certainly top 4/5).
He put two inside the 5 against Hawaii and then 2 again yesterday.
2) Arnettes penalty sucked.
3) I am glad we bagged the trying to kick off in the left corner crap. We have a great kick coverage unit and don't need to risk spotting teams on the 35.

We are unbeatable if we improve in all areas just a bit and keep building momentum.
