Second Wiseman chimes in with this report—
“Tommy Togiai has been possibly the best member of this incoming recruiting class so far. It was unclear whether or not any of the freshman DT's would play this fall. Togiai is going to play so long as he stays healthy. He came in from day one ready to go. He is just so strong in his upper body, he threw up 225 20 times right out of the gate early in winter conditioning. His strength and quickness along with the way he handles his business like a veteran will earn him some PT this fall.
Da'von Hamilton quietly had a good spring. He gives the staff a little bit of a change of pace on the interior. A lot of the defensive tackles are interior pass rushers, Hamilton provides a big body who can take up space.
Nick Bosa is the best defensive lineman on the roster but at times this spring Dre'Mont Jones made it close. He is faster and more explosive than ever. The coaches are expecting him to have an absolutely huge season this fall.
Speaking of Bosa, he is the reason most people around the program think the 2018 defensive line will be better than the 2017 defensive line. He's going to play way more snaps in 2018 than he did in 2017. More Bosa is a good thing.
Chase Young is still working on his consistency but the flashes of greatness are there. He is the best pure outside pass rusher on the team. Bosa is the best defensive end and best defensive lineman, but in terms of just using pure speed to get around the edge, Young provides that better than anyone in this group.
You saw the offensive tackles were flipped in the spring game with Munford working at left tackle and Prince working at right tackle. Meyer then went on to say that nothing has been decided there. While probably true, the expectation is that things will stay the way they were in the spring game with Prince on the right side and Munford on the left side. There are some challenging games coming right out of the gate and the staff would prefer not to have to go through an adjustment period for Isaiah as he gets comfortable with left tackle. It is also Isaiah's money year and playing him where he is comfortable is not only best for the team, but it is the most fair thing for Isaiah.
The offensive line this spring was the walking wounded with a lot of guys either held out or used sparingly. Demetrius Knox is one who really took advantage of this. He was at times the best offensive lineman on the team during spring practice. Something flipped with Meech late last season. Nobody can quite put their finger on it and the staff wishes they knew exactly what it was or they would have pushed that button a couple of years ago, but Meech has come a long way and even with Bowen returning is going to be tough to move out of that right guard spot.
The safe pick to start at center right now is Brady Taylor but Josh Myers did start to push late in the spring. Tie goes to the runner in baseball and tie will go to Taylor here. It is too cerebral of a position to not go with the vet if it is close.
Always hate to see guys leave the program because every kid comes to Ohio State with the dream of being an All-American, but it was probably time for Matt Burrell. Myers had kind of passed him up at center and with Knox playing so well at guard and Wyatt Davis coming along nicely there as well, it was going to be a tough path to the field for Matt.
Jeff Okudah didn't get to participate in spring practice as he is nursing his shoulder injury. But there should be no concerns about this young man moving forward. When Meyer talks about guys handling their business like grown men, everyone should picture Jeff Okudah. They absolutely love him inside the Woody and think he's going to be a star both on and off the field.
Baron Browning is the best athlete on the team. The staff has to find a way to get this young man ready to go this fall, he simply has too much potential to not be a contributor in this linebacker room that lacks star power”
