I made it out this morning to freshman practice. We had a chance to see about four periods of work, nothing all that telling based on what they were doing but we knew that going in. There will be a full practice later today and we will get to see four periods of that one as well.

But I did want to make a couple of quick notes of what I saw this morning (I do have some video too but I have not had a chance to start editing it as of yet).

  • Both Torrance Gibson and Joe Burrow each had a leg brace on, it just seems that is the standard around here now and both were wearing them today when they came out. Both were in black no-contact jerseys as well.
  • Damon Arnette (as I said yesterday, was on crutches) and Dre'mont Jones did not work out due to some lingering injuries.
  • These freshmen OL are massive. Kevin Feder and Branden Bowen are monsters out there. I have seen them several times before but once they got into the gear (and they are not in pads yet even), wow... they can eclipse the sun. Isaiah Prince is a kid that when he walks around looks the part but these guys are even bigger. Matthew Burrell has a good look to him as well. He dropped some weight since high school and is starting to see his body develop more.
  • Practice today was more to teach these guys how to practice. They were going over what some of the drills were, where to line-up, etc. Often times they would stop down and huddle up as a group and Meyer or Ash or another coach would impart a lesson.
  • Meyer talked with them all about being in proper football position and how important that is. They already are starting to install messages for these young players who in high school could just out athlete everyone. Welcome to the big leagues
  • ESPN was there for morning sports center and BTN is there for its Training Days series. There were ESPN and BTN shirts all over the place.
  • Did not get a chance to see the running backs (okay, Mike Weber) all that much since they were on the other side of the field but he looks pretty stout out there. I think he is going to be a good one.
  • Johnnie Dixon and some other older players were walking around, I saw Cardale but no Ronda shirt today.

I will go through the tape here as soon as I have a chance but I wanted to fire off these notes after taking care of a couple of issues.
