If he has Cholangiocarcinoma (Bile Duct Ca), that is not good.

Based on the article that was posted above, it said the cancer was between the liver and the pancreas, which would be the Biliary system - Hepatic ducts, common bile duct, Gallbladder, cystic duct, pancreatic duct, etc. It likely blocked off the bile duct causing back-up of bile and the subsequent jaundice appearance. I'm not sure, but stenting may have been performed to alleviate the jaundice, and then surgical removal of the cancer that was causing the blockage.

Types
There are two types of bile duct cancer:
Intrahepatic: Forms in the bile ducts inside the liver
Extrahepatic: Forms in the bile ducts outside the liver

Treatment
Treatment may include surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation.

Prognosis
The five-year survival rate for bile duct cancer is 18–23% if the cancer hasn't spread beyond the bile ducts, and 2–3% if it has spread.

Doc (OSUmdFAN)

Edit: Confirmed on espin, Bile Duct Cancer ~12:45am.
