So Haskins was kind of the hero and the goat last night to a lot of people, but I think it is worth to compare his performance to the last 6 trips to Happy Valley (below)
1) His statistical performance is right up there with Boeckman in 07 and JT in 16 as the best in recent history
2) I find it complete hogwash to "well those were screen passes" and discount his performance for 3 reasons
a) Many of those were not easy throws...quite frankly we have had many QBs struggle to hit our screens in stride ..or throw behind them...and often he was throwing over a defender in his face. This wasn't a 1 foot "pop pass"
b) This is what he was best at, because this is what the defense was giving him. When you blitz on 70%+ of downs, you are going to have a hard time hitting a lot of 25 yard out passes. He made them pay the price for the defensive choices they made
c) all these stats have "well buts". The INT for Haskins is not really Haskins fault, and he had multiple other drops. Its just as bad as people trying to take away the biggest 3 runs for a RB and say his stats weren't that good. The stats are what they are.
3) Haskins was not the accurate passer that he has been all year..there is no denying that. However, that is why they blitz Tom Brady. I am not saying Haskins is TB, but just recognize that considering the game plan, I think you have to tip your hat and say good job Haskins. You need to learn and get better, but in that environment history looks pretty good on him.
