COLUMBUS, Ohio – Six members of the Ohio State wrestling program are set to compete this weekend at the 2021 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Fort Worth, Texas. The trials will take place at the Dickies Arena on April 2-3.
Kyle Snyder, Nathan Tomasello, Joey McKenna, Myles Martin, Kollin Moore and Nick Boykin have all set their sights on a coveted spot for this summer’s Olympic Games in Tokyo. The first five wrestlers will be competing in the freestyle event in various weight classes. Boykin is competing in the 97kg of the Greco-Roman division. The winner of each class, with the except of the 65kg class, will earn a spot on Team USA for the Tokyo Games. The winner of the 65kg class will still have to qualify the weight for the Olympics at the World Olympic Qualifier in Sofia, Bulgaria, May 6-9.

Snyder, who became the youngest Olympic Gold medalist in American wrestling history when he won gold in Rio in 2016, will have a bye to the best-of-three finals in the 97kg class. He has also won a pair of world titles and earned the bronze at the 2019 World Championships at the Olympic weight.
With Snyder earning a bye to the best-of-three finals and J’Den Cox receiving a bye to the semifinals, Moore will be the top-seed in the 97kg bracket. The 2018 U23 World silver medalist and 2019 Senior Nationals runner-up, Moore finished second in voting for the Dan Hodge Trophy in 2020 and was the heavy favorite to win the NCAA title at 197 pounds. He is looking to win the qualifying tournament and setup an all Buckeye final with Snyder.
Tomasello is returning to competition after an extended time off. He last competed at the 2019 Senior Nationals, where he took second at 57kg. He enters this weekend as the No. 7 seed in the 57kg class.
McKenna is the No. 5 seed in arguable the deepest weight class in the event at 65kg. He is a multiple age-group World medalist and is coming off a third-place finish at the 2021 Matteo Pellicone in Italy in early March.
Martin, the 2016 NCAA Champion, enters this weekend the No. 4 seed in the 86kg weight class. He has plenty of experience on the senior lever, as he is a U23 world team member, a Grand Prix champion, and US Open runner-up.
Boykin is the only current OSU wrestler at the trials. The Tennessee native moved to the U.S. Olympic Training Center prior to enrolling at Ohio State and represented the US on the 2019 Junior World Team for Greco-Roman. Boykin won the 2020 US Senior Nationals in October and will enter this weekend as the No. 4 seed in the 97kg class.
