Corey Smith going down with what looks like a season-ender leaves OSU with only one proven outside WR. Cardale needs outside WRs and a vertical passing game to play to his strengths. Losing Devin and Evan to graduation and Smith and Noah Brown to injury means Cardale does not have last year's tools to work with. There are lots of "H" players and converted RBs but few true WRs. The vertical threats are gone and the poor blocking of the current receivers has taken away the outside screen game.
So, IMO, OSU either needs to switch QBs again (which I'm sure Meyer is loathe to do) and go to an option game (read, speed) and quick distribution game with JT… or… they're going to have to play Gibson and/or Hill immediately to give themselves some WR threats to work with. There's still a little time left before they hit the meat of the schedule -- they could go either way but they've got to make a decision now, get the proper players ready and play to the strengths of the personnel.
