One aspect of this game that no one seems to be talking about is special teams and whether this is the year we cease to be snakebit in the kicking game vs PSU. In the last two games we’ve seen (among other things):
- Blocked punt deep in OSU territory (directly resulted in field goal)
- Blocked field goal returned for touchdown
- Kickoff returned for TD
- Kickoff returned for 59 yards - led to 20 yard touchdown drive
The pivotal story of the last two PSU games has been special teams bricks by OSU. In each of those two games their offense managed a meager 280 yards (notwithstanding having a generational talent in Barclay) yet they won one and almost won another. Here is hoping it doesn’t happen yet again.
