While I am quite vocal about the repeal of cannabis prohibition, I am even more passionate about developing the US hemp market and bringing a viable and sustainable new crop to American farmers. A story like this one from the UK shows what can be done with industrial hemp, and I plan to build a home in Ohio from the hemp grown on my farm this fall. The future of construction can be much more sustainable as hemp products are developed to replace traditional materials.
Currently, hemp is used to make hemp-crete, composite hemp-wood, hemp adobe and plaster, and hemp batt insulation. As more hemp is grown and more products are developed, we'll see hemp used to make carpets, "vinyl" flooring, upholstery, textiles, paints/stains, and many other products. This will be a boon to American farmers who can now grow the inputs for many developing industrial applications - even beyond construction. 2020 will be the first year Ohio farmers can grow hemp, and I'm glad to be part of it.
Does anyone know of anyone in (or contemplating entering) hemp farming?
