I think there are 2 different standards that are not always the same. Should the playoff include...
1. The 4 Best Teams
2. The 4 Teams that have accomplished the best results during the season
To me this difference is not discussed enough.
I think UGA and OSU and potentially UCF have a better arguments to be the in playoff based on criteria #1.
As much as the bowl has made it look bad, I think it is clear that based on the regular season ND and Oklahoma were better based on criteria #2.
As much as it pains some of us here, I think it is a mistake to use criteria 1 over criteria 2. For all the people who clamor that the regular season must matter, and that is the beauty of CFB. Then you have to say that the results matter.
Georgia is the best test discussion, and every time I hear people talk about it, it based clearly on #1 and not #2. Yes, they were probably one of the best 4 teams....but they lost the 2 games that matter. If we start saying that Wins and Losses are less important than how good you are, then we are truly failing the beauty of what sports is all about.
So what should matter....your Wins and Losses....or how good you are?
While these may be the same, they often aren't
(I apologize if this has been gone over before here and I missed it)
