1. Torrance Gibson- I don't have the anointing oil out yet, but it may be in my Amazon.com check-out cart. What sold me was him blocking a kid in a drill until WELL after the whistle in practice, to the point where coaches had to separate him from the defender. If he keeps that up, he'll get plenty of time at the Z receiver. Blocking that hard=UFM dialing up plays to get you touches.
2. Tommy Schutt-it is his time now. The kid flashed well enough versus Wisconsin in 2012 that I never thought he'd be here four years. He has somewhat flatlined the past two seasons, but I'm looking for a big jump out of him at the Noseguard spot. An NFL contract being on the line will do that...
3. Mike Thomas- for all of the press Braxton and Torrance are getting, I believe that Mike will lead the team in every receiving category from the X receiver position. He has the best hands on the entire team. Again, this is his swan song in a a Buckeye uniform. Pencil him in for All-Big Ten.
4. Chase Farris- the kid from Elyria is excited to finally have a permanent home at RT. He has shuttled from DL/OL/DL/OL since he arrived on campus. Kid has NFL feet, but needed a firm role to get excited about. I think he will be an upgrade from Darryl Baldwin and will be a 5th year senior leader.
5. Raekwon McMillan-I think Raekwon will win the pre-season Barton (my awards I've created) "Ezekiel" award, named for the player most likely to ascend into stardom this season. Curtis Grant's seniority ate into his playing time last season, but that hurdle is history. Watching him glide around the practice field helps you realize why Coach Meyer LOVES players from Georgia (Supreme talent, plus well coached). Guys like him are why we've had such success against the spread. Physicality and speed kill spread offenses like Oregon. The hard part is finding the rare players that possess both traits. Raekwon is the prototype of this.
