Going all the way back to the later Sentator Paul Wellstone Memorial in the early 2000s, it seems as though funerals and memorial services for notable poiticians and other members of our now Professional Poltical Class are becoming more political opportunities and payback gatherings than true memorials.
Even Aretha Franklin's 6 hour service was polluted politically by the "Rev". Al Sharpton and others yesterday with their political/personal hits on President Trump !! AF wasn't a 'political activist' in their mold.
I watched much of the solemn service from the National Cathedral this morning. It certainly was a collection of our Professional Political Class "membership" MINUS President Trump (and The First Lady, Melania), the 'mostly despised' novice political outsider/interloper. I witnessed a lot of 'genuine political hypocrisy' going on! I truly feel sorry for Meghan McCain doe the her loss of her father. In fact, she certainly is a 'chip of the old block'. And my concolences to the rest of JMcC's family for their loss of a husband, father and grandfather. But this was not the time nor place to speak/think ill of others - present and absent. As for the TV commenters, shame on them for even faintly alluding to that place of anger and bitterness. (We all know how 'politely they have/haven't treated JMcC over his long career and his two failed attempts to become president.)
