New to the board... Really excited about the folks that have come over here... Congrats to Buckeye Grove on some excellent additions!
I've looked at this team over the last couple weeks a little differently than some. I know many aren't extremely happy with the play and feel this team isn't living up to the hype. It's hard to argue that we haven't been as dominate as we all expected, but I've maintained that a lot of our "issues" is Coach Meyer doing another excellent job of coaching this team.
When you come into a season with all the first place votes... and all the talent in the world... I think you can, and have to, manage you're team a bit differently than any other team playing on Saturdays. We don't need style points, if we do what we do, we're in. We don't need to put up numbers like Baylor, we don't need to be the team people expected.
I think we've been much more solid than people care to see. Minor errors that seem to get better from week to week. I see an extremely vanilla offense and I fully believe this is by design. This isn't the first time I've said this, but I believe Coach Meyer is managing this team the way he needs to. Let's fix our issues before we move on to the next chapter of the play book. Let's do what we need to win games... Let's go back and fix our errors and continue to build on the foundation of this team. Let's get better... Let's create coachable wins...
It would have been really easy to come out and steamroll our schedule, but what does that accomplish? Does that really make us a better team? Sure it changes the talk a bit, but the talk would have simply changes to us not being challenged and that we would get complacent.
I love the direction we're going and the improvement we've seen. This staff has identified problems and corrected them from week to week. IMO, we are a much better team today than we would have been had we dominated our schedule to this point. We've learned a lot (staff and players) and we've gotten better because of it.
That said... I think Coach Meyer got exactly what he wanted and I think he going to let this team be them and open things open up and let the momentum take over. I really think we start to see those dominate performances from here on out that we were hoping for.
Coach Meyer has been really calm about this team. He's not a guy that sugar coats anything. If he thought we took a step back, we'd hear about it. Instead, we seem to see a guy each week with a smile on his face, enjoying the wins and this team... I think he knows exactly how good this team truly is and he's going to let everyone see it.
He won't get credit for it, but I think we are seeing another masterful job by Coach Meyer and this staff!
If you weren't having fun before, I have a feeling Saturday is the start of something special...
