Twas the night before THE GAME when all through the land
Not a creature was stirring, not even The Best Damn Band.
The helmets were hung by the lockers with care,
In hopes that game day soon would be there.

The players were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of pick 6's danced in their heads.
And Coach in the film room and I at my desk,
Had just settled our down for a 5 minute rest.

When out on the field there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the blinds and threw up the sash.

The moon on the top of the new-fallen snow
Gave the luster of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But Barrett and Zeke, in full on game gear.

With a little old coach, running play after play,
I knew right away it was the ghost of coach Hayes.
Faster than lightning his curses they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and yelled out the plays!

"Now run! now block! now screen and touchdown!
On, first! On, second! On, third and fourth downs.
To the top of the post! to the left of the hash!
Now dash away! Through that d-line with a crash!"

As Buckeyes before them they could suddenly fly,
When they met with an obstacle, up at the line.
So up to Shoe all the players they flew,
With a team full of seniors, and redshirters too.

And then, in a twinkling, the day had arrived,
The prancing skunk badgers were in front of our eyes.
As was drawn on my board, and seen on my tapes,
Down with that team, wipe the smiles off their face.

Hoke dressed in his swag, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with sugar and soot.
A bundle of donuts he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a hobbit, with a krispy kreme sack.

His eyes, how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His donuts were glazed, and his filling was cherry!
His fat little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the glaze on his lips was as white as the snow.

The chunks of his pastry held tight in his teeth,
And the crumbs encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like bowls filled with jelly!

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in delight with myself!
A quick 3 and out with a shake of his head,
Soon led me to know I had nothing to dread.

He ran not a run, but went straight to the pass,
And filled all the cameras, with the look of an ass.
And laying his palm atop his forehead,
He finally conceded that his dream job was dead!

I sprang to my feet, as the ref gave a whistle,
And Jalin had rushed past the line like missile.
That's when I heard them shout out with glee,
Buckeyes 56, that team up north 3.
