- Ed Warinner was apparently on a mission today as he offered several of New Jersey's top talents in the 2017 class. Warinner offered The Hun School defensive tackle Fred Hansard, Pope John XXIII defensive tackle Dalyn Wade-Perry, and St. John Vianney offensive lineman Micah Clark.
We had a quick update on Hansard recently where he told me Ohio State was one of his favorites, if not the favorite. Today he text me that he was 'speechless' upon receiving word of the offer from his high school coach and he told me that Warinner is expected to swing by the school tomorrow.
Mid-Atlantic analyst Adam Friedman posted on the board this morning to expect Clark to be a four-star prospect when the rankings are updated for the 2017 class. As for Wade-Perry, he comes from the same high school that produced Noah Brown. I stopped by the school while Brown was being recruited and I can tell you that the coaching staff there are very pro-OSU and Ed Warinner so while boards are still being shaped for 2017, I'd expect Ohio State to be a player here if he becomes a high priority target.
Warinner also swung by Lackawanna Junior College in Scranton (Pa.) today. That's a pretty standard stop for Warinner whenever he's up that way.
- Both Chris Ash and Kerry Coombs were in the Atlanta area today and they watched Peachtree Ridge High School's practice. The Buckeyes have offered 2016 defensive backs Nigel Warrior and Chad Clay as well as 2017 five-star defensive back Deangelo Gibbs (are you kidding me with that secondary?). They also continue to look at 2017 ATH Connor Heyward, Cameron Heyward's younger brother.
We'll hopefully know a little more by the end of the week but I am told this was a big practice for Clay. With both defensive back coaches there, there was definitely some evaluation going on as the board at defensive back continues to be filled with a lot of guys who are pretty close together in terms of their ability. The staff continues to sort through which guys are takes (guys like Warrior, Damar Hamlin, and Wayne Davis definitely are, I'm told) but today's trip was definitely largely in part to get an up close look at Chad who says he will decide by the end of the month.
- Luke Fickell and Tony Alford were down in Florida today and took in practice at IMG Academy where they watched 2016 commits Malik Barrow and Tyler Gerald and were undoubtedly evaluating several other talented prospects. I've been getting some good feedback from people down at IMG about how Barrow is looking coming off shoulder surgery. Definitely looking the part physically.
- Zach Smith was also in Florida today and he stopped by Deerfield Beach High School home of 2017 Rivals100 wide receiver Jerry Jeudy. Smith offered Jeudy while he was at the school and I traded a few texts with Jerry's high school coach.
"Jerry was very excited to get the offer from coach Zach," his coach told me. "Ohio State is one of his top five schools and I know he's been waiting on this offer for a while."
- Ohio State offered Rivals250 Lawrenceville (Ga.) Archer wide receiver Kyle Davis today. The class of 2016 prospect is committed to South Carolina but has Georgia working hard to try and flip him. Don't foresee too much happening here with the Buckeyes but you never know.
The Buckeyes also offered Davis' class of 2017 teammate Jamyest Williams, a Rivals100 prospect who could project to either wide receiver or defensive back at the next level.
- Finally, 2017 Ohio State defensive back commit Shaun Wade was offered by Stanford today. Stanford signed his 2015 teammate Ben Edwards who was once committed to the Buckeyes. I am sure Edwards will work on his teammate here but I tend to think the Florida and SEC schools would be more of a threat at this point.
