What does your doctor know about the Endocannabinoid System (ECS)? Likely zero...

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is a bodily system made of receptors located throughout the body that works with all other systems to maintain homeostasis, or optimal balance and functionality. It seems that a system this integral to so many bodily systems, functions, and our overall health would be a major focus of medical knowledge and teaching. Sadly, it is not - like, at all... This is the ultimate medical malpractice.

I challenge anyone who is skeptical of the medical efficacy of marijuana to do a couple hours of honest research on the ECS and how phytocannabinoids (like those found in marijuana) supplement the endocannabinoids our bodies produce naturally to regulate our various bodily systems. Learn about anandamide and the "runner's high." Learn about the endocannabinoids (anandamide and 2AG) in breast milk and what that can mean for a new born's health. Learn about the research that is happening despite efforts from the US government to block it. Learn something about the ECS and teach others - it will can have a big impact on their (and your) health and wellbeing.

I also challenge you to issue this same challenge to your physician. Ask them what they were taught about the ECS in medical school. Ask them what they are taught about the ECS in continuing medical education. Ask them what they have taught themselves about the ECS through self-study. If they have no clue what you're talking about or show no interest in learning about it, it's time to find a new physician - one who is willing to look at new information in order to provide you with the most up to date medical advice possible.

Going to a physician ignorant of the body's ECS is like taking your new Audi to an auto mechanic ignorant of the car's ECU (engine control unit). The ECS works with all the body's systems to make sure the body functions properly much like the ECU works with all the car's systems to make sure the car functions properly. Why would you go to a mechanic who doesn't understand how your car works? Same applies to a doctor who doesn't understand how your body works.
