I have been following OSU football since as long as I can remember. It had started to feel like OSU was more of an NFL factory, where every single guy who could get drafted, would mostly go pro. With the majority of the declarations being made, and the majority of draftable guys returning, to go along with the portal pick ups, and coaching changes, it feels like this is trending to be the best off-season this program has had.
With that said, there is still work to do, and there is rumored to be more coaches on the hot seat. What do you feel would be the best moves for OSU to make before fall practice?
My perfect scenario would be:
- Replace Parker with the transition Dline coach (Jason Taylor or other) totally remove all the negative recruiting on the Dline for Johnson's retirement, as OSU can't afford to have a low quantity or quality class next year. Then, next season, replace Johnson with Laurinitis, when both parties are ready.
- As speculated, Dennis is perhaps not going to be renewed. The best hire OSU could make to me would be Jason Candle. It's a great opportunity for both parties, and give Candle the keys to the offense. As far as any additional changes Candle wants to make, I would give him the chance (outside of Hartline)
- I would imagine there is more attrition to come, and OSU is currently 1 under the scholarship limit. I would go ahead and sign Kirks, and wait for spring attrition. I'd set the over/under at 5 guys still to leave, which would allow you to pick up 5 guys (or elevate a walk on or two) in the portal - Bringing in the best offensive tackle available would be the biggest need, and then perhaps looking for depth at WR & DL.
- Lastly, I'd be flying all my coaches to Alabama, and "just so happen" to bump into Downs & others. Adding Downs (even though I refuse to believe it) and a right tackle, takes this team from elite to uber elite as far as the roster make up
what would be your preferred next steps/coaching replacements, that if happened, would cause you to try to claim the off-season natty?
