I think it's been a whole 3 milliseconds since I last had an update on 2017 wide receivers for you guys, so here's a little more going into the Friday Night Lights stretch. We'll get the usual suspects in Ohio out of the way first and then go national.
Jaylen Harris and Javonte Richardson - I posted my thoughts on the dynamic Cleveland duo throughout the day Monday and it culminated in this Tuesday morning post (scroll down to the Cuyahoga part).
I had said that Harris was likely out for FNL due to an AAU basketball tournament, and he is now definitely confirmed out for the trip. Won't do anything to Ohio State's chances here and they remain the favorite. No other visits for him on the near horizon to OSU or anywhere else, but we'll stay on top of any changes.
Richardson hasn't really had any major changes to his plans. He's in, camp fee is paid, paperwork is filled out, travel plans are set. Mom should be coming up with him, her first time seeing Ohio State. Spoke to an Ohio State source and I am expecting Jigg to work out at at least wide receiver and free safety for sure and could also get some tread at tight end and linebacker if the coaches are feeling ambitious. He will play wherever, does not matter. Everything is good on the academic end, has made honor roll the past couple semesters, just waiting on the coaches to see him live and in person and pull the trigger on the offer.
Danny Davis - As Marc posted earlier in the week, he will also be missing Friday Night Lights due to an AAU tournament. Probably not an opportune time for him to miss out on performing for the Buckeyes as every other top wide receiver in the state has camped for them and the national guys will be rolling in at Friday Night Lights or have already camped in June.
Dakari Carter - The Streetsboro WR/ATH and two-time defending state champion in the 100M dash is all set to be at FNL.
Russ Yeast - Hearing that he may be coming to Friday Night Lights now, had not planned on it before. Will know more soon on that for you guys if it is real or just smoke. Don't think he ends up in the class just because of some of the other guys they're grabbing, but somebody is going to get a very good one in him.
Moving out nationally now:
Three of the country's top receivers will be at Friday Night Lights, but won't be in Columbus. Trevon Grimes, Donovan Peoples-Jones, and Manny Greene are all expected in attendance for the Gators' Friday Night Lights in Gainesville. For Greene and Grimes, they had been doing a lot of traveling this offseason and it's a lot easier to make the trip to Florida than it is to fly up to Columbus. Still expect both to be Buckeyes when it's all said and done. Peoples-Jones was just offered by Florida very recently and he had already seen Ohio State this summer so it's not a game over deal or anything like that. Expect Ohio State to continue factoring in, but it will be a dog fight with heavy hitters like USC, Michigan, Sparty, Notre Dame, LSU, Florida, and a million other schools.
Give me the Damn Ball Jr. will be in Columbus however, and is one of the country's top prospects. I am not sure if he will be working out and haven't been able to confirm either way, but I am sure the staff would like him to in order to get a clearer picture of where he fits on their board. Perhaps even more importantly, the visit will provide a clearer understanding of where they fit on his board and can allow both parties to see where this recruitment will precede going forward.
Edit note: Keyshawn tweeted not 2 minutes after I posted this that he will be releasing his top 8 schools on Friday
Also in attendance will be Ohio State commit Bruce Judson. Judson is going to play the H-back position at Ohio State, but it is WR-ish and he'll factor into their scholly total for some other wide receivers. He has taken a ton of visits to other schools lately so it will be good to bring him back in to Columbus and see where things stand. He continues to say all of the right things even if the visits point otherwise
