Todays news out of Alabama makes me thankful to be a Buckeye fan.
Culture is important. Winning is important. But what we forget is this is still college athletics and the goal is have the program you root for produce fantastic people.
This is obviously an awful, isolated incident. But IMO this is what happens when an athletic department loses its way. When paying a kid who hasn’t played a second or minute becomes more important than getting a good kid who wants to earn the money and be developed.
I’d do a lot for Ohio State to have the success that Bama has had in football. I want titles every other year for a decade plus. This basketball season has been unacceptable. I want to root for a BB program where sweet 16s are expected.
I know Ohio State doesn’t exactly have the most sterling reputation, and bad things aren’t an indictment on an entire institution, but I’m proud to be Buckeye. And I’m proud to cheer on coaches who appear to be good people with the best interests of young people in mind.
