Ohio State is canceling its home-and-home series with Washington in 2024 and 2025.

Couple of reasons for it, chief among them that OSU could be adding games against USC/UCLA as early as 2024 (depending on what that Big Ten schedule looks like, which we don’t have yet). OSU also only has six home games in 2023, so doing this gives them the opening to pick up another home game in 2024, which will give it eight games in The Shoe that year.

The 2024 game was scheduled to be played in Washington, and the 2025 game here. Both will be replaced on their respective schedules by OSU home games.

From Gene Smith:

“We initiated the cancellation. I have the utmost respect for the University of Washington and for Director of Athletics Jennifer Cohen, and this was a very difficult call to make. Consistent with terms of the contract, we will be responsible for the $500,000 cancellation penalty that has to be paid by February 2025. As a result of the cancellation, we will add an eighth home game for the 2024 season, affording us the opportunity to have the funding to pay the penalty and guarantee for that eighth opponent.”

So as things stand now:

2024 non-conference opponents: vs. Southern Miss, vs. Western Michigan, home opponent TBD

2025 non-conference opponents: vs.Texas, vs. UConn, home opponent TBD
