We wanted to drop a note on the board to help prepare you all for the changes that you’re seeing on the site. As of Wednesday, September first (which started about 60 seconds before we posted this message), Ohio State’s rivals.com site is undergoing a transition. Welcome to the Scarlet and Gray Report. You can still access the site at ohiostate.rivals.com. You should also be able to reach the site by typing in scarletandgrayreport.com. If you’re reading this, you’ve already found a way to get here, so the first hurdle is cleared.
We’d love to have been able to address this before it happened, but that’s simply not how things work. Due to contractual situations, there’s no way to provide information prior to a specific time. This is that time. We hope you see our efforts to get this message out and four fresh stories on the front page the minute we were allowed to do so as an indication that we value you being here and we will work hard to make the site worth your time and investment.
Let us first say that we understand change is difficult. There will likely be quite a few questions. We will do our best to answer them all for you in a timely fashion. We all want the same thing here: You guys want a place to read about and discuss the Buckeyes. We want to keep you up to date on them and provide a platform to get to know other passionate Ohio State fans. You guys are the die-hards of one of the most passionate fanbases in the country. We want to provide a product worthy of that passion.
We admit, the timing is not ideal here. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we’re in a period of transition just hours before Ohio State opens the 2021 season. We will be covering the opener at Minnesota and will have coverage of the team and Ohio State’s recruiting and will be active on the message boards as we return to a full staff in the coming days and weeks. Due to contracts and legal issues, we are not able to announce a full staff today. Obviously, we’d love to be able to, but the way the timetable has gone means that we are going to have to delay certain announcements for a short amount of time. We can tell you that we’ve got Jack Emerson helping out with our team coverage as we get through this short transition period. Jack is the co-editor at the Lantern and will be supplementing our coverage throughout the season, but we will have a full-time team writer covering the Buckeyes every day. We’re excited about where it’s going and we believe you all will be too when the time comes that we can make that announcement.
We have Sean Williams who does recruiting work for multiple sites in the network helping us cover Ohio State recruiting to start. Sean will continue to be a contributor to the recruiting coverage here, but we also have a full-time recruiting writer in the plans and are optimistic that news will be able to be made public very shortly as well.
We are confident that the team we are putting together will make the site more than worth your time and your money. We do not take for granted that it is a choice for you all to be here. It is not our given right to keep any of you. We have to earn your trust and give you a reason to be here. We absolutely are confident we will.
All we ask of you is one thing: Give us a chance. Ohio State is about to open another season. Give us that season. Stick with us, see who we bring in, see the work we do. Judge us on the product we put out. If you do that, we feel confident this site will remain your go-to source for Ohio State news and discussion.
