Before I share the film review, I want to start with a story because this one, despite not personally knowing Bennett Christian, is a bit more personal for me. I am very familiar with another former Tight End from Allatoona High School (GA) and it would be remiss of me if I didn’t share. I had the pleasure of identifying and helping recruit Turner Cockrell to Vanderbilt during my time there, Turner was a long, wirey TE prospect out of Allatoona that just needed to add weight in order to play in the SEC. Unfortunately Turner would never really get that opportunity because during his redshirt freshman year, he was diagnosed with melanoma in his lymph nodes. He had surgery in December to remove the cancerous lymph nodes and underwent radiation treatments for 20 weeks. In July 2018, a body scan revealed that the cancer had spread to his lungs and unfortunately by late November that year Turner passed away. It was tough, here was this great young man, with the world in front of him and to all of our sorrow he was called home earlier than anyone could understand. Something no team or family wants to ever experience, fortunately through the leadership of our staff, the strength of Turner’s family and determination to carry on his memory by teammates, Turner’s legacy lives on through Turner’s Heroes and their goal to work towards a cure for pediatric cancer through the funding of Discovery Grants and endowment funds.(https://www.turnersheroes.org/)
I apologize I had to start Bennett’s film review with a sad story, but I know Bennett wouldn't mind as he knows the Cockrell family well, because he looked up to Turner as he was good friends with Bennett’s older brother. Long story short, cancer sucks but after watching Bennett's film, I feel pretty confident in saying that I will finally get to see an Allatoona High School tight end catch passes on Saturdays like I hoped to see Turner do.
